Fees and Frequently Asked Questions

Here you’ll find my fees and answers to the questions people often ask before starting psychodynamic psychotherapy in Bloomsbury, central London. They include what happens in the first session, how often we meet and confidentiality. If your question isn’t answered here, please get in touch.

Fees

Initial consultation (50 minutes): £80
Weekly psychotherapy (50-minute sessions): from £80 per session, depending on the day and time.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy training placement (three sessions a week): This would be discussed in your consultation and depends on your circumstances.

I keep a small number of lower-fee places for people on lower incomes. Please ask if this would help.

Paying for sessions

Payment is made by bank transfer.

Cancellations and breaks

Your session is kept for you at the same time each week. Because of this, the full fee applies to sessions that are missed or cancelled, whatever the reason.

I take regular breaks at Christmas, at Easter and in August, as well as other weeks through the year, and I let you know the dates well in advance. You are not charged for my breaks. I ask that, where possible, you take your own holidays at the same time.

What happens in the first meeting?

The first meeting is an initial consultation. It is a chance to talk about what has brought you to therapy and to ask any questions you have. We can think together about whether psychodynamic therapy and working with me feels right for you. There is no obligation to continue afterwards.

How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?

Sessions last 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy training placements involve three sessions a week. Meeting regularly, at a set time, is an important part of how the work helps.

How long does therapy last?

Open-ended therapy has no fixed number of sessions. Many people come for a year or more, and some for several years. We think about when and how to end together, rather than working to a set end date.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. What you bring stays between us, with a few limits. Like all registered therapists, I discuss my work in clinical supervision, without identifying you. I may need to share information if I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm, or if the law requires it. Wherever possible, I would talk with you first. I will ask for your GP’s details at the start of our work.

What if I don’t know what to talk about?

That is very common, and it is fine. There is no right way to begin. You can start wherever you are, even with not knowing what to say. Often, that is a useful place to start thinking together.

Can I contact you between sessions?

Contact between sessions is kept to practical matters. I am not able to offer support between sessions or respond to emergencies. If you are in crisis, call 999, NHS 111 (option 2 for mental health), or Samaritans on 116 123.

How do I get started?

Send me a message through the contact page. A line or two is enough. I aim to reply within two working days to arrange an initial consultation.
